Chiropractors- What To Expect
If you have never been to a chiropractor before, you may not know what to expect! In this blog post, we’ll examine the usual practices that occur during a chiropractic visit. When visiting a chiropractor you will feel as if you are going to a regular doctor.
The chiropractic table. The distinctive appearance of the chiropractic table is quite an elaborate thing. These tables allow the chiropractor to position and move the table during a chiropractic adjustment.
Consultation. A typical visit to our chiropractors here at Care Medical Centers will include consultation, which initially requires a complete health questionnaire. The chiropractors will ask you where your discomfort is and will start a routine physical exam.
Examination. The chiropractor will examine your spine and most likely your neck. Sometimes, here at Care Medical Centers, our chiropractors will take x-rays of your spine before treatment. We need this to understand the bony anatomy and soft tissues. It will also help our chiropractors understand the extent of any other abnormalities on your spine and other factors that will help you with a treatment plan.
Treatment Plan. Our chiropractors will develop a treatment plan for you which consist on the extent of your injury, your general health, the condition of your spine and most important of all your goals in your treatment. A typical treatment will consist of a chiropractic adjustment. What is a chiropractic adjustment? It is a type of manipulation that uses controlled force, leverage and direction, amplitude and velocity directed at a specific joints. We will most often adjust the spine but might also adjust your ankle, knee, elbow, shoulder or wrist in order to align and improve your joint comfort and function . When your neck and back are being treated, you will receive a series of adjustments which will be separated by a day or or a few days. These treatments may also last several weeks. If you feel you cannot tolerate manual adjustments, you may receive non-force treatments such as application of heat, ice or electrical stimulation.
Suggestions for Maintenance. Both during and after your treatment plan, our chiropractors will suggest things you can do to keep your alignment in check. Suggestions such as using supports for your shoes, exercise or weight loss and other lifestyle factors and nutritional supplements may be recommended to help you maintain good health.
