Are Chiropractors Doctors?
Here at Care Medical Centers, the question sometimes get raised of whether we, being chiropractic physicians, are the same as a medical doctors. To answer the question simply, we are doctors of a specialized profession, such as optometrists, podiatrists, dentists and psychologists. Both Dr. Levy and Dr. Gilchrist carry the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic, which was obtained after 8 years of training (on average) at a university. Dr. Levy and Dr. Gilchrist obtained their Doctor of Chiropractic at Life University in Marietta, GA.
There are strong similarities in the education of chiropractors and doctors. Just like medical doctors, chiropractors are professionals that are subject to the same type of testing procedures, licensing and monitoring by state and national peer-reviewed boards. Federal and state programs, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers’ Compensations programs cover chiropractic care, and all federal agencies accept sick-leave certificates signed by doctors of chiropractic.
The difference between chiropractors and doctors lies in their approach to caring for people. Medical doctors are taught to have a focus in medicines, the use of chemicals that affect your internal biochemistry and surgery to fix physical problems. Our chiropractic office focuses on providing an alternative to the medical establishment. Care Medical Centers takes a holistic approach that focuses on chiropractic adjustment of soft tissue and joints and pain management through herbs, nutrition and homeopathic items. Most people go to doctors to fix pain or a problem that they are having (symptomatic treatment). We here at Care Medical Centers believe in keeping wellness ongoing and to keep the pain or problem from developing in the first place (if possible).
Despite our holistic approach, we here at Care Medical Centers understand there is a need for medicine provided by a doctor sometimes. To quote the American Chiropractic Association, “Doctors of chiropractic may assess patients through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate. Chiropractors will readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patient’s condition, or the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other members of the health care team.”
That being said, we want to treat the whole you, not your symptoms. Discover true holistic care with a focus on keeping you well. Call Care Medical Centers today for all your chiropractic and holistic needs: (954) 981-4355.
