What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
If you are experiencing lower back pain (or back pain in general), neck pain, headache or general physical discomfort- you may have had a co-worker or family member suggest you go get a chiropractic adjustment. What does that mean and what does a chiropractic adjustment entail?
Chiropractic adjustment entails a trained specialist (a chiropractor) utilizing their hands (or sometimes small instruments) to apply a sudden and controlled force to a joint. The purpose of doing this is to correct the structural alignment of your body and improve function. Chiropractic adjustment works off the ability for your body to heal itself. Keeping the structure of the body aligned allows for healthier function.
Chiropractic adjustments are safe when they are performed by someone who knows what they are doing. Receiving chiropractic adjustments from a family member or a friend is NOT safe as they could injure you further. Make sure you seek out a licensed chiropractor to receive a chiropractic adjustment.
After an adjustment, you might experience some minor side effects such as headache, fatigue or soreness/pain in the area of the body that was adjusted. Drinking lots of water and resting can help alleviate these symptoms.
